Kappa Alpha Phi
KAP Spring 2012 Update

KAPs Are Back

On January 23rd, 2012, the College’s Administrative Council voted to reinstate the Kappa Alpha Phi Fraternity’s recognition as a campus organization. The reinstatement concluded a year-long process of reflection, seminars (leadership, organization, fraternity values etc.) and a session with 5 alumni to discuss KAP traditions and heritage. The process also included a comprehensive rewrite of the constitution. The current group of KAPs has weathered a difficult time with a sense of strength and dignity and now exhibit a resolve to bringing the KAPs back to a position of campus leadership. They want a strong alumni connection and we look forward to helping and supporting them in the days ahead. Congratulations!

KAPs Take Nine Pledges

Despite the year of inactivity, nine underclassmen stuck with the actives and pledged this spring. This is a strong testimony to the active’s leadership and character and the respect they continue to enjoy across campus. We welcome these tremendous young men to the brotherhood!

Second Annual Recognition Event Held

27 brothers come together for a great afternoon.

On April 29, the Alumni hosted the second Recognition Event at the college’s Alumni Center. Eleven alumni, sixteen actives and the KAP Advisor, Jim Wendelschafer, joined together to celebrate the KAP reinstatement, the new pledge class and the 4 graduating seniors. From the generous alumni contributions, we were able to provide the luncheon, welcome the new pledges with a traditional KAP green jacket and celebrate the graduating seniors’ contributions by presenting them an engraved crystal KAP mug.

The brothers of 2012 – a great group of guys!

We also reinstated the tradition of presenting all the actives a certificate of membership. We also took the opportunity to thank our advisor for all of his support and guidance. As a rousing conclusion, the brothers previewed their song for the upcoming All College Sing -- it was definitely up to the KAP standards of old!

We plan to make this celebration an annual event and encourage more alumni to attend. It is a great couple hours of alumni/active interaction and storytelling!

KAPs Take Third Place in the All College Sing

The brothers were awarded 3rd place out of the 7 competing

Fraternities for their stirring rendition of the Grammy award-winning song "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys. Well done guys!

Homecoming on September 22nd!

Start making plans to come back to the beautiful GCC campus for homecoming. The classes of 1962 (50th) and 67 (45th) are trying to rally their classes to attend. When you get there, look for your brothers at the KAP tent in the Greek Village!

KAP Scholarship Planning Underway

Now that the brothers are reinstated, we will be putting a plan together to start up a scholarship for annual presentation to a deserving active. Your contributions will be tax deductible as they are passed through the college scholarship program. Look for more on this in the weeks ahead.

Welcome to the KAP web site!

Back in February 2009, KAP alumni and current brothers started the KAP Alumni Partnership Project. Our vision was alums and actives working together to ensure the KAP tradition, presence and friendships remained strong on campus and among our over 700 alumni across the country.

From the beginning, we recognized that a KAP web site was the best possible way to connect with brothers and provide information on alumni and on-campus activities. For access to additional brotherhood information, to include an alumni directory, we invite KAP alums to “Create an Account’ by providing a user name and password for validation.

The site is still a work in progress. We hope that you will use it to reconnect with old friends and keep up with what the current brothers are doing on campus. Your input for articles or improvements are most desired and appreciated! Use the Contact Us link or contact me ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. HOMECOMING ACTIVITIES: 30 KAPs came together at Your Brothers, the KAP tent in the Greek Village and Rudys to celebrate their KAP years and friendships.

KAP REINSTATEMENT: The brothers are on their way to being reinstated this semester.  Alums meet with the actives and prospective members to re-enforce KAP history, traditions and values.

KAP FOOTBALL STAR HONORED: Jarred Frawley, an all conference football player for Grove City picked to represent the USA at Mexican Division Three all-star classic.

KAP ALUMNI RAISE MONEY FOR JARRED’S All STAR EXPENSES: 27 Alums came together to raise $1500 to cover Jarred’s expenses for All Star trip to Mexico

We hope you will explore these stories and pictures using your user name and password.

2011 Golf Outing Huge Success

The KAPS held their 28th Annual Golf Outing on July 9th at the Cranberry Highlands Golf course outside Pittsburgh.  Many of the brothers came out for a fun and story filled social the night before.  Then on Saturday morning, some 66 golfers (well maybe fewer depending on how you define golfer!) teed it up for a day of golf and camaraderie on a beautiful, sunny day!
